About Me

My photo
My wife & I were able to put University of Michigan & Michigan State rivalry aside. We have been married for 44 years, have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. I was an active Rotarian. I ran my own sales company for a number of years. Customers were here & overseas. I felt fortunate to have had both Ford & Mercedes as customers.

If you've been following my Posts, you know I have alerted you to a number of Medical Emergency situations. Many of you are like I was: "It'll never happen to me!"

They have happened, not to me; but to my wife and a close friend.

My wife has a medical situation that is progressive. We've had time to get the Medical Emergency Response equipment & other items in place before they were needed. You should too!

I will be presenting Emergency situations & helpful solutions to them.

What are the first things that Paramedic & Emergency Room personnel ask you:
What medications are you taking?
Are you allergic to any medications?
Do you have any allergies?
Have you been treated by a Doctor within the last six months? If so, for what?
Who would you like us to notify?

Do you have all this information at your fingertips? There is a solution. And, we'll be covering it.

We live in an area that has frequent summer storms that knock out normal telephone service for hours, sometimes days. My experience suggests that few Seniors have cell phones. Thus, they would be unable to contact 911 if they had a Medical Emergency.

Did you happen to see the Distractional 101 Segment on The Today Show?

Meredith Vieira was filmed driving in a Simulator. She moved up to within 3 car lengths of the car ahead when she was "Texted", took her eyes off the road and was headed for a crash when filming stopped. Her reaction confirmed the Presenter's opening statement that the braking time for someone Texting or Talking on the Cell Phone while driving is 4 times slower braking than a Driver who isn't.

I'm sure you are a good Driver; but that doesn't mean you won't be clobbered by a Driver who is talking on the Cell Phone or Texting.

I was so impressed by the segment that I bought a 7 minute copy of the Segment. I'd be glad to show it to you via computer using "Go To Meeting", if you're interested.

6th Repeat - My Posts connect. You'll see why I think it's important that everyone follow from the starting gate very soon.

Can you image the panic someone must feel if they're having a Medical Emergency and they can't speak? There is a Medical Emergency Response System that gets Paramedics rolling when someone is having a Medical Emergency & can't speak to a 911 Operator.

Post a comment, if you want more information on this. I'll be glad to give you more information.

5th Repeat

If it hadn't been for my wife's fall, I probably wouldn't have paid attention to the following statistics.

Seniors are hospitalized 5 times more often than they are for other injuries from all other causes. FALLS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH FOR SENIORS.(Center FOR Disease Control)
50 % of People who fall require assistance from someone else to get them up. After a fall, or other emergency, 90% of people who get help within one hour will continue independent living; but after 12 hours, without help, only 10% will continue to live at home. (New England Journal of Medicine)

Post 4 repeat.

Have you ever experienced a Medical Emergency? My wife did several years ago. She had fallen in the bathroom. Her head was bleeding. She couldn't get up.

We have a Medical Emergency Response System. She was able to press the button on the Pendent she wears whenever I'm away. The 911 Operator answered immediately & started Paramedics & Firemen on their way to her. A neighbor was able to give Paramedics the combination to the lock box we have on our door so there was no need for Firemen to break down our door.

We had family with us why the re-post of 3 is late.

As my wife's disability increased, we began to prepare for Emergencies. Emergencies just happen. They come without warning.

We did several things: installed a Medical Emergency Response System and put a Lock Box on our front door. It's a good thing we did! Both have been used.

This is the 2nd Repeat - 4 more to go

You would never have known that my wife had Multiple Sclerosis if you met her when we were married. I've told you it was Progressive. Some years later she found she needed a cane. I can still remember the tears that welled up as she walked up the sidewalk on our way to our Church's 11:00 Service. As time went on, the cane was replaced with a 3 wheel walker that was later replaced with an electric scooter that has now been replaced with an electric wheelchair.
